Forgotten & forgiven

This story is a response to the Challenge posted on Friday Fictioneers, which is a weekly blog link-up led by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields at Addicted to Purple. A story inspired by the photo prompt, a beginning, middle and end in just 100 words or below, making every word count. Here goes my attempt, hope you guys like it.

Forgotten & forgiven

“A birthday? you want something over it?”

“Yeah…getting over him. So just name it HAPPY CAKE” I exclaimed, proud of myself.

Just now….saw him stepping out of this very bakery. The way he held her hand was perfect and the way he ignored me too.

  1. One wonders how much really has been forgiven and forgotten. When people have “over him” célébrations I can’t help but wonder if there’s a bitter after taste in the icing. Hopefully she has truly seen why it didn’t or couldn’t work. Well done conversation.

    • Heartbreaks, according to me can never be forgotten. Depending on the aftermath relationship with the ex, maybe you would forgive him/her. But bitter tastes is all a question of perception. Maybe the relationship was itself bitter that parting seemed sweeter. Thanks a lot for the beautiful comment.

      • I agree; a real heartbreak won’t be forgotten. Usually a person’s heart isn’t broken — at least not so painfully — unless they’re the one abandoned. I think a person can see the light and move on, realizing the relationship would have only brought grief. But there’s something in the idea of celebrating the “over it now” that strikes me as a little spiteful. However, if he’s coming out of the same bakery, maybe he’s buying a cake to celebrate the breakup, too.
