She is ‘SPECIAL’

This story is a response to the Challenge posted on Friday Fictioneers, which is a weekly blog link-up led by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields at Addicted to Purple. A story inspired by the photo prompt, a beginning, middle and end in just 100 words or below, making every word count. Here goes my attempt, hope you guys like it.

She is ‘SPECIAL’

The path was never easy, neither the one Laila walked on nor the one she was headed to.

It needed in her extraordinary will to know all that, which was her right. The state had provision for free education to poor children like her. But how would the children from her village reach to the nearest school was a question unanswered. Her dad had said, “No boy from our village goes to school, are you any special?”.

“Yes” she said.

She rolled her notebook and clutched it tightly before jumping into the river. The river that awaited its sanctioned bridge.
