Magical grind

This story is a response to the Challenge posted on Friday Fictioneers, which is a weekly blog link-up led by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields at Addicted to Purple. A story inspired by the photo prompt, a beginning, middle and end in just 100 words or below, making every word count. Here goes my attempt, hope you guys like it.

Magical grind

“You know how this works?”

“Nope…but we can try…lets see.” Betty winked at Sal. With cue her specs start projecting some search results.

“Grinds were used some hundred years ago to make flouuur? The less evolved species used to grow plants and trees…” she read on.

“Stop…this one here is a little different, check those pics. And the sparkle here… I wonder if….” Sal pushes the grind in motion, giving life to a portal into an unknown realm where her feet touch a warm green mat and laser like rays burn her skin and blind her vision.

“Where am I…?”
